Glossary Term

Random Sampling

A method where each member of the sampling frame has a known, non-zero chance of selection.

Random sampling selects participants using chance, which supports generalizability and reduces selection bias. In schools, this might involve randomly choosing classrooms or students from rosters.

When feasible, pair random sampling with standardized Puppet Interview administration to strengthen validity. Document procedures for reproducibility.
