Glossary Term

Parental Consent

Written permission from a parent/guardian required before a child participates; often paired with child assent.

Parental consent authorizes a child’s participation in research or evaluation. In schools, FERPA may apply; in health contexts, see HIPAA. Digital flows should present clear summaries and downloadable PDFs.
